The Fourth Trimester
The “Fourth Trimester” of pregnancy is a time of enormous transition for families, and is often overlooked and under-served. In addition to having a doula present at your birth, you may wish to have support at home during the first few weeks after your baby is born. She provides bedside care and tending to breastfeeding challenges, referrals for any mom or baby health concerns, and skilled support in traversing the rocky first days of emotions that can present for a postpartum mother.
Stella’s rich background as an apprentice midwife, experienced mother, and herbalist, in addition to her doula skills, gives her services more depth and meaning, ultimately providing more than just standard postpartum doula care. Her holistic approach weaves together home remedies for breast issues, perineal tears, and womb care during the tender, healing period just after childbirth. Her expertise is in recognizing what a new family’s most pressing needs are, and she delivers her services with a great deal of careful, compassionate listening, a broad depth of knowledge around common challenges, and applies a positive, can-do attitude if things are tough.
A POSTPARTUM DOULA
Offers a chance for the family to bond and rest together, by assisting with light household chores, such as laundry, dishes, and grocery shopping.
Can help make your breast feeding experience more satisfying by offering techniques and suggestions, and helping to problem-solve if you are experiencing challenges.
Helps to identify any problems that may need to be addressed by your care provider and can make referrals.
Can provide educational information about the tender phase of life just after birth, and offer emotional support.
Is especially helpful after a cesarean birth, allowing the mother to heal well and have extra help.
Postpartum Doula care takes place in your home, and is available for $25 per hour, or as one of several service 'packages'. You may call anytime to schedule your care. To optimize this service it is recommended, though not necessary, that we meet while you are still pregnant, to discuss your needs, choices, and expectations.
