What is a Meal Tree?
A meal tree is a helpful gift to a new family, whether it is a gift to yourself, or a baby shower present for someone you love. The more a new family can rest and bond together, the healthier and happier all members can be. By not having to worry about meals as much during the first weeks of the baby’s life, the less exhausting and stressful the experience can be. If you wish to receive meals from your community but don’t wish to be interrupted, a simple sign on your door that says you are resting, and a cooler on your porch to put the meal in, can facilitate even more uninterrupted time together. Or, perhaps this is the opportunity for a friend to meet your new baby without you leaving your bed! Your community wants to participate in the celebration of life, and this way of supporting you can be a win-win situation for all!
How does it work?
A list of local family and friends and their contact information is handed to the doula, so that she can organize for meals to be delivered to your doorstep. When the baby is born, the doula "activates" the list, and the new parents begin receiving meals. Your list can be as long as you like. For example, if 14 friends contribute, you will receive meals every day for two weeks.
